A part of my Portrait Project.

The Road to Adulthood and Portrait Project!A coworker and friend got kidney stones. She's younger than I am, 23, a mother, and a recent college graduate without student debt. She also just bought a brand new car and has monthly payments on that. She can afford it because we have good jobs and she doesn't have debt! But then she got kidney stones. And I knew she didn't have health insurance because we're young and healthy. I was terrified for her. But she's pulling through and has avenues to go through to get her hospital bill down.
I didn't have health insurance when I heard about her medical issues this past Saturday. I went from feeling young and strong to utterly fragile. I purchased health insurance now, today actually, and though I still feel frazzled, I feel better having a safety net. I have over fifty grand of student debt, rent, and utilities. I can't afford a medical emergency. Something tells me that many people can't. Grown Up Check List. Get Health Insurance. Check.
